The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (“AHEPA”) is the largest and oldest American based Greek heritage grassroots membership organization. Its scope is international with chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, Europe and “sister” chapters in Australia and New Zea-land under the auspices of AHEPA Australasia. AHEPA was founded on July 26, 1922 in response to the evils of bigotry and racism that emerged in early 20th century American society. It also helped Greek immigrants assimilate into American society. Today, AHEPA brings the ideals of Ancient Greece, which include philanthropy, education, civic responsibility, family and individual excellence to the community. Although the majority of AHEPA’s membership is comprised of Americans of Greek descent, membership is open to anyone who believes in the mission of the organization and considers themselves Philhellenes (those of non-Greek descent but friends of Greece).
AHEPA’s Constantine Cassis Chapter #170 was Founded on April 26, 1928 by James Boulukos, George P. In the late 1990’s after one of the chapters legends and past president Constantine Cassis passed, in light of all his philanthropic works, generosity, passion of giving & caring, the chapter membership elected to honor his memory by renaming the chapter to the Constantine Cassis No. 170.
Today, our chapter continues its philanthropic works by sponsoring fundraising events for people of all kinds; gives continuous support to the Cathedral of Saint Paul, District and National causes. AHEPA Constantine Cassis Chapter No. 170 was one of the first chapters to start fundraising for Autism. The chapter also raised funds for the North Shore Hospital Heart Association and the chapter is currently working on fundraising for the new site of Saint Michael’s Home in nearby Uniondale NY.
In conjunction with the family of the late Constantine and late Carol Cassis the AHEPA family of Saint Paul currently awards three scholarships to worthy individuals annually. Constantine Cassis Chapter No. 170 continually promotes Hellenism and strives for education and continued philanthropic works. As we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the chapter, the chapter continues to flourish and grow.
